Protests are planned for Saturday 29 June in US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and Bangladesh to push Gap and Walmart to sign the Bangladesh Safety Accord. This legally binding, enforceable agreement already has more than 60 global brands signed up. IndustriALL, UNI Global Union in a dynamic partnership with leading NGOs, the Cleans Clothes Campaign and Worker Rights Consortium, are developing the implementation programme along with company representatives.

UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings said, “Walmart and GAP have taken a wrong turn. They should immediately sign the Bangladesh Safety Deal to show they want to make a real difference to the working lives of Bangladeshi garment workers. If Walmart and GAP go ahead with plans to side step the Accord and go their own way with an unenforceable set of promises they will be doing a grave disservice to their customers and the people of Bangladesh.”
