The name of the Spanish security firm Prosegur appears in the Panama Papers, linking it to secretive off-shore trading.

A search for Prosegur in a recently-released online database returns one result for Prosegur Limited, a company connected to the United Arab Emirates and registered in the British Virgin Islands.

The data is said to come directly from the Panama Papers - the leak of more than 11.5 million financial and legal records which, according to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, “exposes a system that enables crime, corruption and wrongdoing, hidden by secretive offshore companies.”

Prosegur Limited’s address is listed as the offices of Consulco International Limited in Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone in the United Arab Emirates. Consulco’s website says it was established in Cyprus in 1993 and specialises in the fields of, amongst others, company formation and administration and tax planning.

Consulco says it is licensed to set up and manage companies in the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone. “These companies are comparable with offshore companies in the sense that they are in principle not subject to any tax over any of their income, but they may be eligible for the benefits of tax treaties concluded by the UAE,” it says.
