The Labour Commission of the Paraguayan Assembly has requested an explication by Prosegur into the mass firing of over 300 workers by the Spanish security company.

The workers were fired immediately after they decided to return to work from a lawful strike. The strike was lifted after the Paraguayan Minister of Labour and Justice offered to mediate in the dispute, and the company asked the union to return to negotiations.

On the 20^th of August Prosegur decided to drop legal action that had sought to declare the strike illegal, after pressure from UNI Global Union and other trade unionists around the world.

It is expected that Prosegur and the Minister of Labour will give responses in the next two weeks.

UNI Global Union and Prosegur unions globally continue to call on Prosegur to reinstate the sacked workers. The fired employees recently announced they would fight Prosegur in the courts to get their jobs back.

“Prosegur cannot continue to behave as they please. They must give an account of their actions”, said Adriana Rosenzvaig Regional Secretary of UNI Americas.

“We want our jobs back. We hope the Labour Commission will ask some hard questions of Prosegur and the Minister”, said sacked worker and General Secretary of the Paraguayan union, Mario Arturo Lomaquis.
