Posting of workers: EU Trade Union Federations keep up the pressure
Trilogue negotiations on the Enforcement of the Posting of Workers Directive are ongoing.
The directive could provide an answer to abusive and fraudulent cross-border posting of workers.
The discussions however have accelerated in pace and could result in a rushed deal in order to obtain an agreement before the upcoming EU elections.
It is for this reason that the concerned European Trade Union Federations issued a joint letter urging the negotiators to not rush the process through and agree on a deal that will have dire consequences for workers in Europe. The implementation and application of the Directive will determine the degrees of protection of posted workers.
In the joint letter, the European trade union movement reiterates minimum demands and requirements to effectively improve the enforcement of the posted workers’ rights and not the opposite.
Rushing such important legislative acts in a politicised manner is not a good idea.
Posted workers deserve the maximum protection possible and national authorities must not be restricted in their supervisory and enforcement functions.
