Hundreds of workers marched in Lisbon, June 9, 2010 protesting the Portuguese Government proposal on the privatisation of CTT-Correios de Portugal SA (Portuguese Post).



The event, organized by the UNI Post & Logistics affiliate SINDETELCO, was to alert public opinion about the "evils" that privatisation will bring. The union say their main concerns are a loss of jobs in the company and reducing the quality service.



The demonstration began before the "Ministério das Obras Públicas, Transportes e Comunicações (Ministries of Transport and Communications), where the watchwords were:" PUBLIC SERVICE YES, NO PRIVATISATION. The Ministry agreed to giving a delegation of the workers a hearing, where they were able to express their arguments that discredit the privatisation.



The workers then marched through the streets of Lisbon, with flags, megaphones t-shirts, making its position on this issue well known to Lisbon's citizens. The protest ended outside the "Ministério das Finanças (Ministry of Finance), where they were received by the Deputy Minister of Finance, who was given documentation supporting the position against privatisation.



The event made clear the position of both the workers and the Executive of SINDETELCO: that privatisation does not serve the workers, is not in the interests of service quality, and therefore does not serve the country .
