The proposal to dismiss Ms. Zemková was made by the ruling party SMER-SD who claimed that she had violated a law in her position as the Director General of RTVS. The broadcasting union OZM considers this claim unfounded and campaigned for the Parliament to stop the process. The Parliament took a vote on 26 June and decided to dismiss Ms. Zemková.



UNI MEI supports OZM in their view that the dismissal was a political move and an attack against the independence of public service broadcasting. UNI MEI calls on the Slovakian parliament to acknowledge the importance of the independence of public service broadcasting and to reject proposals that threaten it.
