People's Bank management in Sri Lanka unconditionally revoked the seven suspension orders invoked on officials of the Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union. The union-busting attempts of the People’s Bank management were defeated by the collective solidarity actions of the members of CBEU in Sri Lanka. 

The Seven Trade Union Leaders suspended from 16th December 2017, - Peoples' Bank CBEU President Shantha Gangabadage receives a grand welcome.

The suspended trade union leaders were greeted and welcomed by their members when they reported working in the New Year!

CBEU launched a solidarity campaign denouncing the unjust suspension of democratically elected trade union leaders in the Peoples Bank in mid –December. The union demanded immediate revocation of suspension orders: withdrawing all voluntary work offered by their members to the People’s Bank, including not cooperating with the bank to extend banking services during the weekends.  

Ministry of Labour mediated and summoned the People’s Bank management and urged the banks to respect the trade union rights and withdraw all hostilities meted on trade union leaders. The Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations requested the management to take actions to promote harmonious industrial relations in the bank, in terms of the provisions in the establishment code in Sri Lanka.

In view of the change of position of the People’s Bank Management, CBEU suspended the One Day Token strike planned for 10th January 2018 in People’s Bank in Sri Lanka.
