The Transport and Communications committee of the Swiss parliament has asked the Swiss Federal Council to abandon its hasty decision to liberalise the Swiss letter market. The committee has indicated that they believe this is an incorrect decision which will harm the quality of service offered by the postal service in Switzerland. UNI Post & Logistics Swiss affiliate, Le Syndicat de la Communication continues to warn against the negative consequences of full liberalization of the postal market. The fiasco of the full liberalization of the electricity market in Switzerland clearly highlights the dangers. Since the postal market is a quasi-monopoly, as the electricity market, the risks are the same: higher prices for the population and SMEs. What should also be understood is the risk that the competition will use the fact that they can lower the working conditions of the employees as a new postal service would not be required to pass a collective labour agreement with unions.
