UNI Global Union was delighted to receive the executive of Finland’s Commercial and Services union, PAM, recently. The union has 227,000 members and intends to grow. Philip Jennings, UNI’s General Secretary was introduced to Piia Yli- Heikkuri, an executive board member from Vaaja, west Finland. Piia has an important claim to fame – she has recruited 96 people to the union this year with the ambition to reach 200 by the end of the year. What’s her secret?



“I ask people, give them an informed view. They know I am here for them and that I’m backed by a great union. It’s a formula that works,” Piia Yli-Heikkuri explained.



During his talks with PAM, Jennings spoke about UNI’s Breaking Through plan to grow unions, it struck a strong chord with executive and their President, Ann Selin.
