The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) has started work with UNI on planning organising campaigns in the West Bank, starting with the National Trade Union of Banking and Insurance (NTUPI).

After a two day strategy and planning workshop with UNI staff held in the UNI headquarters in Switzerland, final details for the first stage of the campaign are now being drawn up by the union and its activists. The leadership of the union spent two days looking at how resources and funding from UNI could be applied to assist the union in achieving significant growth in union membership and bargaining power.

The Head of the UNI Finance Sector Angelo Di Cristo told the Palestinian Union Leaders

`This is a very important Project for us and for you. This is the start of a positive step by UNI to work with you as brothers and sisters. We wish to see you grow, to see stronger and more influential trade unions in Palestine, respected by the employers and trusted by the workers. We look forward to achieving our goals together`.

This intiative follows on from work led by the General Secretary Phillip Jennings, to fast forward UNI Organising work in this vital area of the world. The PGFTU has responded very positively to work of the UNI staff involved in assisting them. Affiliated unions all over the world have recognised this is a key piece of work for UNI and it has received the backing of the Regions and World bodies of UNI Global.
