With help from the German organisation Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), UNI convened a meeting of Asian cleaning unions in Bangkok in March. Unions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand were present. Michael Crosby from the Australian Union United Voice and Jennie Yeo of the Singaporean union BATU made very well-received presentations outlining their unions' successes in winning improvements with cleaners.



Nigel Venes, UNI Organiser said; "I hope that we have given the participants some new ideas about how to campaign and organise successfully in cleaning. I am sure that each union will now be developing a plan to take these ideas forward and try to improve the lives of the millions of exploited cleaning workers in this region."
