Prosegur is the third largest security company in the world and will expand its presence in the German market by acquiring the company “Brinks and Transport Service”. Prosegur has already acquired the German company SecurLog in November 2011. This move further confirms its intention to increase its business in Germany.
However, this deal could be bad news for 400 employees out of the 1000 that are now working for Brinks, who are at risk of losing their jobs. According to recent reports, the workforce could be reduced by one third as a result of the takeover.
The deal remains unsigned until a Social Plan is agreed with the relevant trade union in the company and (UNI affiliated organisation) Verdi.
Peter Bremme, Ver.di’s International Officer said “By cutting the workforce by one third to make a deal worth millions of Euros for both companies, Prosegur and Brinks are not acting in the interest of the employees. We have to secure the rights of workers!”.
Ver.di will continue talks with both companies with a view to find a socially acceptable solution.
UNI global union calls on Brinks and Prosegur to enter into a genuine and open dialogue with German trade unions in order any job losses and find alternative solutions to dismissals.
Negotiations for the establishment of an EWC for Prosegur are ongoing between the trade union representatives from Spain, Portugal and France, under the coordination of UNI Europa. It is clear that with Prosegur gaining a huge presence in the cash transport business in Germany, then German trade union representatives will have to be called to join the negotiating table soon. UNI Europa is, at present, excluded from the negotiations. This is because of the refusal of the company to open negotiations with a view to reaching a global agreement to secure trade union rights worldwide. This will also provide an effective forum for information and consultation of workers’ representatives in Europe.
