Two thousand people met in Oslo to protest against the EU Directive on temporary agency work to be implemented in Norway. Strikes also took place in around 40 towns across the country including Bergen, Trondheim, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Tromsø, etc.



The majority of LO (the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions) member unions say the Directive will introduce massive use of temp agency labour forcing our permanent workers and undermining the conditions and workers' rights as well as puting the current labour laws in danger.

Unio, one of Norway’s largest unions in the public sector, wants the Government to veto the Directive. It is a controversial debate since the Labour Party wants to implement the Directive in Norway and some trade unions have accepted it as well.



The Norwegian Government does not have a firm opinion about it. Norway is not a member of the European Union, but follows its laws as part of its membership in the European Economic Area (since 1994).
