THIRTEEN union leaders from Nigeria visited UNI head office on 11 June. The delegation was headed by President of the UNI Nigeria Liaison Council Gabriel Babalola.



The delegation was received by UNI Operations Manager Colin Medland, UNI Africa Regional Secretary Zakari Koudougou and UNI Africa research assistant John Musonda.



Balalola informed UNI that three unions from Nigeria have expressed their interest to affiliate to UNI and that the UNI Nigeria Liaison Council supports them.



He said the liaison council has been holding regular meetings of affiliates and that Nigerian affiliates would like to participate actively in planned activities of UNI Africa.



Zakari Koudougou explained the procedure of affiliation and encouraged the delegation to ensure that they organize and improve on payment of affiliation fees in Nigeria.



He urged them to work together in solidarity at national level and build strong and democratic unions. He encouraged them to access more information on the UNI and UNI Africa websites.



Among the UNI affiliates present in the delegation were FOBTOB, ASSBIFI and HAPSSSA. Other unions present were NUHPSW, NUFBTE and ASCSN. The delegation is in Geneva for this year’s ILO Conference.
