A reforming law was developed in consultation with unions in Nicaragua. It contains significant changes for postal workers and their unions. The law makes the post office a 100% state owned enterprise rather than a public limited company and opens the lettermail market to competition. The law specifies that the post office can open a postal bank. Finally, it provides for better working conditions, including higher salaries, for postal workers and the development of a postal school where all workers can be trained.
