Unions have been urged to develop new communication strategies to organise workers in the ICT sectors.

In an address to the UNI Communicators Forum meeting in Cape Town 9 - 11 April 2008, Deputy President of the South African communications union Karthi Pillay said that despite being a catalyst for economical growth, the ICT sector is generating highly casualised jobs and workers are being denied their rights.

He called for the development of a global strategy to deal with munitanationals especially in the emerging call centre industry.

And UNI deputy general secretary Philip Bowyer urged union communicators to learn new technological advances in the communications that can help in organising workers.

And general secretary of the commercial union Bones Skulu said unions should act in solidarity and confront multinationals and governments who want to erode workers rights.
