National Union of Bank Employees’ [NUBE] held its convention and elected a new leadership for the period 2017-2022. 

Bro. Jesus Exequiel Nidea, President of Philippines Savings Bank Employees’ Union succeeded the long-standing National President of NUBE. Bro. Jose P. Umali, Jr., one of the founders and driving force behind NUBE as its National President for 37 years, addressed the National Convention, passing on the torch of leadership to the new generation of leaders.

UNI Global General Secretary Philip Jennings, extending greetings to the convention stressed; the theme “NUBE at the Dawn of a New Beginning” signals that NUBE is embracing the future and bringing new life to the organization. This is an important step as the digital future and artificial intelligence (AI) are already here, bringing with them important challenges to the trade union movement.

 Mr. Vicente Cuna, Jr., President of PSBank, addressed the gathering. Conveying the greetings of PSBank, Mr. Cuna emphasized that employee engagement contributes to the growth of the Bank. Mr. Mark Limson, PSBank Vice President for Human Resources, commended the PSBEU and the NUBE for being “mature” organizations, especially in terms of labour- management relations.

The NUBE Convention was held on May 13, 2017, at the assembly hall of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) in Makati City, Manila.
