The final Conference for the European Project: Network Gender, organized by CCOO, with the participation of CWU, CGIL and UNI Europa, was held in Madrid in October 2014.

The main objective of this project has been to analyse the regression in Europe of certain issues like employment, public services, women workers’ rights, etc., as a consequence of the economic and financial crisis, followed by the austerity measures established by certain governments which have affected the welfare State, deepening its consequences.

From the road to women empowerment in unions like CWU, to the establishment of gender policies in unions, as presented by CGIL; and the need to reinforce networks by including gender perspectives in Global Agreements, as presented by UNI Europa; the conference was focused on the need to create networks that will help minimize the impact of the crisis and that will help promote the empowerment of women across Europe.

UNI Europa was fortunate to be represented throughout the duration of the project by two of its Regional Committee members: Ana Sanchez and Denise McGuire, as well as by the Head of UNI Equal Opportunities, Veronica Fernandez Mendez.
