The announcement of the closure of Curtis Fine Paper in Scotland, the potential closure of the Sappi paper mill in Blackburn, the closure of the Polestar Greaves bindery and Northampton Web, plus other job losses in commercial print, newspapers and packaging is devastating for our members, their families and the industries.



“We expected Greaves bindery to close at some point, but it is still bad news for our members. Our members are facing a ‘double whammy’, with mega prices hikes on food and energy bills on the one hand and job losses and employment insecurity on the other.



"For many of our members it is going to be an uncertain and bleak winter. But the banks, city fat cats and speculators who created the credit crunch, have gone uncriticised and got away scot-free by the Government. Energy companies are making record profits, the champagne corks are still popping in their boardrooms, while manufacturing goes down the tube.



"Unite is doing its best to help members in looking for new jobs or find training opportunities in order to look for new employment."
