The Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo) held the 84^th May Day rallies across Japan on April 27. Rengo usually holds its May Day rally each year before a holiday-studded period, known as the "Golden Week" in Japan.



About 40,000 people came together to the main rally event venue in Tokyo. The governor of Tokyo, the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, the president of DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) were invited as guests.



Rengo has called for wage increases, job creations, and improved working conditions. At the same time, it has promised to make all efforts to elect all labour-friendly candidates to the Upper House (equivalent of the US Senate) in the upcoming Upper House election in July.
