This conference stands in full solidarity with our sisters and brothers at IKEA Turkey and their union Koop-Is in their just fight to fully exercise their right to join a union without fear of retaliation or recrimination.

We strongly believe that everyone has the right to be organised in a union, to have fair wages, good conditions and a safe and clean working environment.

It is time that IKEA puts its own values into practice.

If IKEA is able to impose the same concept and appearance to all IKEA stores, all the way down to meatballs in its restaurants worldwide, the company should also apply the same principle for a global labour relations policy, union and bargaining rights.

We demand IKEA to immediately put a stop to the threats, harassment and dismissal of workers in Turkey that are exercising their right to unionise.

We demand IKEA to enter into serious negotiations with UNI Global Union for a global agreement which guarantees basic worker and union rights. Such an agreement must include union access to the workers, the right to organise without opposition and full collective bargaining rights at all IKEA workplaces.

Conference calls on the incoming NEC to immediately forward a fraternal solidarity message of support to our sister union in Turkey Koop-Is and make IKEA aware of Mandate’s dissatisfaction with the treatment of workers in Turkey and our demands as outlined. Mandate supports any necessary future solidarity actions in defence of worker’s rights in IKEA stores in Turkey and also globally.
