TESCO announced its intention to become the “people’s bank” expanding on an already existing system of financial services especially savings accounts. TESCO has for several years offered savings accounts to customers and given the current financial crisis the company has experienced an increase in applications as people seems to show little faith in regular banks.





UNI commerce have no problem with the global retailers branching out as a business strategy to protect or improve their position but just like other global companies TESCO has on several occasions demonstrated its reluctance to create good working conditions and allow its workers the free choice of a trade union and to allow for collective bargaining.

Therefore, UNI commerce is sceptical that this new chapter in the TESCO adventure is going to be a fairytale for the people TESCO will be hiring to work in its new banks.
