Many months have passed since the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union, ABWU, requested information from Cable & Wireless about the merger with Columbus Communication/FLOW, the future of members jobs and the recognition of the union at Flow.
 
This week the Labour Department has notified Cable & Wireless/LIME to recognize the union’s at Flow and to stop its unilateral activities and involve ABWU in the process, since recognizing the workers decision to form a union.
 
The Labour Department determined that under no circumstances will C&W be allowed to bully workers into a new election to form their union. Workers at Flow won their election several years ago and have been certified.
 
Cable and Wireless is obligated by law to negotiate with ABWU and any failure to accomplish it will violate Antigua and Bermuda’s labour laws.
