The Korean Media Workers Union affiliates have been agressed on 30 June while demonstrating against Mr. Choi Si-Jong Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission.



The unions were demanding the demission of Mr. Choi Si-Joong who is seeking to establish a direct control over the media. The unions were expressing their concerns that that the government’s attempt to dismantle KOBACO (Korea Broadcasting Advertisement Corporation) and set up private media representatives on advertisement will bring in blocking the diversity of opinions and promoting media concentration.



UNI-MEI protests against this act of violence and supports the actions undertaken by his Korean colleagues and calls on the governement to resume dialogue with the union.



Philip Jennings, General Secretary of UNI has condemned the agression and wrote a letter of support.
