JPGU, with 250,000 postal workers in Japan held the 9th National Congress on  1st and 2nd June, in Kobe city, Japan.  1,500 delegates, observers and guests attended the congress. UNI-LCJapan opened a "UNI Desk" in the congress site, distributed UNI leaflets and displayed pictures and data which introduce UNI and its activities.
Philip Jennings, General Secretary of UNI Global Union sent solidarity greetings to the congress.  He mentioned that Japan Post acquired Toll Group last year, an Australian global logistics provider, and supported JPGU's efforts to organize Toll Group companies in Asia.  He also noted that JPGU has met that  challenge and is seeking to grow the international union movement to ensure workers' rights are respected around the world. And with the challenging times facing traditional postal business, this leadership in the new world of  parcels and logistics is especially needed.
On the last day of the congress, the overwhelming majority delegates voted for the proposed the 2016 action policy, which includes making a start in organizing Toll Group companies in Asia, with the support of UNI and the ITF.
