The Japan Post Group Union held its annual congress 17-19 June in Kanazawa City where around 1,600 postal workers from every corner of Japan attended to discuss the future of the union. The congress also talked the sustainable development of the new medium-term management plan, building up new labor-management relations, and improvement of working conditions worthy for the listed company. Furthermore, it discussed about 300,000 union membership building.
UNI Americas’ Post & Logistics President Jim Sauber offered greetings on behalf of UNI Post & Logistics. Sauber serves as the chief of staff at the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). He addressed how Japanese postal financial services is good model for the USPS to replicate, a key priority for his and the other American unions. The US financial system faces hardship and is unfriendly to ordinary consumers. 68 million people have no bank accounts or access to affordable banking services. The USPS unions and business leaders are working together to promote a legislative reform to allow the USPS to offer financial services to the public. Japan Postbank is its model. Japan Post operates its postal service as “an integrated lifestyle-support corporate group.” Japan Post must be maintained as one integrated service. He closed his speech “Solidarity today, solidarity forever!"
JPGU delegates voted for the annual union's new policy and approve it on the final day. Delegates also voted for the union's new leadership, with Bro. Toshimichi Omata being re-elected as the JPGU President. Its national congress was considered a success by the union and its delegates
