Close to 50 representatives from UNI, ITF, PSI, IndustriALL & BWI affiliates took part in the Joint GUF Discussion Forum on Effective partiipation by trade unions on the International Day on the Elimination of violence against women held at Maniben Kara Hall, Mumbai on 25th Nov.2013.

Sis. Shubhada Kamte, Chief Labour Officer,Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation spoke on the current status of the Violence against women, the legal provisions to prevent Violence and the implementation in India.

The Forum participants discussed on the role of  Trade Unions in this important issue and suggested

- Sensitisation to the male members on the issue of Gender Equality and violence against women and

- Creating a cell in the trade unions to oversee the implementation of the workplace committes mandated by the Vishaka judgement and the Sexual Harassement of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013.
