Logistics workers from several different unions met recently in Jakarta to discuss how they could work together to improve conditions for logistics workers in Indonesia. They are developing a plan to support the organising of several different logistics companies in the region, including DHL where the company has refused to so far recognise the DHL Express union even though they have nearly half the company's workers as members of their union.



Other unions talked about how outsourcing has become a way to lower wages and conditions and they pledged to work together to organise outsourced workers into a union to put pressure on the logistics industry to give them permanent jobs and to pay them proper wages and social benefits.



Neil Anderson, Head of UNI Post & Logistics, and Jens Saverstam, from the Swedish union SEKO which represents post and Logistics workers in Sweden, spoke of the need to get stronger by building more members and promised union would support their organising efforts. The unions are building a plan to support the organising in DHL Express to try and gain enough members to get union recognition and to bargain a collective contract that would help fix many of the problems the workers are concerned about. Other unions present were the LinFox , GCS, Indonesia Post and TNT unions.
