Indian IT service multinational faked books
UNI's Indian affiliate UNITE in a press release commented on the bookkeeping fraud at Indian's IT service mulitnational Satyam.
Chairman of Satyam Computer Ramalinga Raju has resigned from the company's board. In a letter to the board members,
Raju also said that the company reported inflated revenues over years.
On 16th October 2008 we had written to India's fourth-largest IT firm to take stand on the World Bank allegations and till date we have not heard from Satyam Computer Services.
UNITES would like Government of India's intervention to urgently institute an enquiry with the cooperation Ministry of IT and with the cooperation of Satyam chairman Ramalinga Raju immediately to get the actual findings on Satyam Computer Services . UNITES is of the view reputed IT companies of India enjoy highest respect in India and elsewhere for their ethical standards and therefore it is time to have a review and prevent such things from happening again.
UNITES representing the professionals in the IT sector firmly believes that the IT & ITES Companies should conform to highest ethical professional standards and Confidentiality with regard to data security. UNITES as a policy always insist on their membership in the IT sector to be committed to such ethical values in their professional conduct. It is important to UNITES and the Indian Public has a right to know how such a questionable action occurred. Since ethical values and standards of conduct with regard to security and its breach are involved a thorough investigation and enquiry is urgently called for.
Government of India would have to decisively intervene and get at the bottom of the Satyam chairman Ramalinga Raju. Government of India clear the fair name of SATYAM staff working for them in India & abroad. Indian companies working on contracts in the US and elsewhere should exercise utmost caution while sub contracting their work to smaller companies. They should ensure that the staffs of those companies are of unimpeachable integrity.
The aversion and hostility to labour movement and ignoring of International Labour Standards whether in India or abroad is unlikely to be helpful in the long run. As insidious alienation of professional staff can cause all kinds of problems for companies. With economic downturn the possible loss of jobs within India and abroad in the IT sector It is time IT companies reviewed their labour policies and take the working professionals into confidence and allow them unionize and
adopt progressive pro labour policies.
