The workers, mainly on central government contracts, are taking action on 29 April over a pay offer that amounts to a consolidated increase of 1.6%. Their action is likely to cause problems with the Department for Work and Pensions' launch of Universal Credit.

 

This will be preceded by the beginning of action short of strike action, including an overtime ban, from Friday, 26 April.

 

Our members are also striking against the loss of between 1,300 and 1,500 jobs in Hewlett Packard in the UK between now and October 2014.

 

Alan Brown, PCS full-time official said: "Our members are determined to win a settlement that will mean a wage increase in real terms. Hewlett Packard makes a fortune from the work our members do.

 

"Our members create their wealth. A relatively decent wage and job security is the least that they deserve. Our members are determined to win this dispute."
