Greek basketball players union (PSAK) calls strike for this weekend

Last week, the members of the Greek basketball players union, PSAK,

approved a resolution to strike 151 to 24. As a result of this resolution, the

Greek league was forced to postpone the first weekend of the Greek

basketball championship for one week until the weekend of October 23rd. The

league is threatening to fire players if they carry through with their strike

action this weekend.

The players are demanding that teams in the A2 division offer health

insurance and pension coverage. Also, that a rule be changed allowing

players to transfer to other Greek teams during the championship. This is

necessary due to the current high rate of default and lack of payment by

teams.
