UNI affiliate the Greek Telecom Employees’ Federation is rallying in Athens to protest the sale of an additional 5% of the State’s shares of OTE, which is Southeast Europe’s largest telecom company, to Deutsche Telecom. The employees of OTE send the following message: “Our hard work will not become the profits of Deutsche Telecom. The problems of the employees will not continue to go unsolved.” Last year, Deutsche Telecom bought 25% of OTE, and an additional 5% claim would make them the company’s largest shareholder.



Workers currently face a set of unresolved employment issues and a sale of shares could further prolong this process. Four regional strikes, to begin at staggered dates beginning on 2 July, have been approved by the Federation’s Council Board.
