With the G20 meeting in Pittsburgh next week, the global union movement has sent its message to leaders of the world’s 20 biggest economies warning that despite reports giving a rosier view of the economic picture a sustainable recovery is not on the horizon.



“The outlook for recovery, which is still uncertain, is at best modest and the slowing of the decline is due almost exclusively to government stimulus measures,” the Global Unions said in a statement. As yet, there is no sign of a self-sustaining economic recovery.



For unemployment, the worst is yet to come they warn. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that unemployment is likely to increase by up to 59 million worldwide by the end of the year and forecasts indicate high global unemployment could persist through 2011.
