Collective bargaining provisions must ensure that bank employees are not put into a conflict of interest between banks and customers. In addition, there is a demand for measures to safeguard employement.



“Our aim is to improve the working conditions of bank employees so that they can give their customers advice tailored to their needs. It is also important that something be done to counteract the pressure to sell financial products to which they are subjected at all levels and which undermines their health,” stressed ver.di’s Uwe Foullong. “Jobs in the financial sector should characterised by dignity, respect and trust.”



In order to reduce the pressure that exits in the industry today, and which has been increased by the elimination of jobs and the demands of having to meet ever more demanding sales targets, ver.di is calling for an agreement that changes the way market and sales control functions and management instruments are applied. We want to see the introduction of quality standards in customer advice and an end to the conflicts of interest that exist between customers and bank employees. To achieve this, it is also necessary that the pressure on employees and demands for productivity improvements at other levels of their work are reduced. This is why we want to see the adoption of a sustainable occupational health and safety programme. Our platform of demands includes: secure employment, the adoption of measures that provide better protection against unfair dismissal, the safeguarding of jobs for example in the event of a relocation or if units are spun off, and the permanent recruitment of trainees.
