The Government has endorsed a proposal from the High Authority for the Achievement of the Objectives of the Revolution that stipulates that the lists that will be put forward for the elections of the Constituent Assembly on 24 July must include men and women in equal proportion (50% each).



UNI Global Union fully supports this move and is looking forward to further equality measures that will result from the January 14 revolution.



The High Authority has also stipulated that the names must be written in alternation (ie one man and then one woman and so on until the end of the list). The Prime Minister said in a recent statement that it is a "major gain that will banish discrimination forever."



The trade unionists who are members of the High Authority, civil society activists, progressive parties and, of course, women have been of crucial importance in achieving this unique gain for the Arab world and for all countries around the globe.
