87% of Unite’s members working for Fujitsu UK voted in favour of a strike action and 96% in favour of industrial action short of a strike to protest against proposals to close a final-salary pension plan and the imposition of a pay freeze.



About 4’000 employees would be affected by the firm’s plan to close the scheme. Unite estimates that each employee would loose around 15% of its total pay package.



Although Fujitsu which is Japan’s biggest computer-services provider is making significant profits, the company imposed a pay freeze on UK staff earlier this year and announced it will cut 1200 jobs throughout the country last week.



“We are calling on the company to meet us to resolve these issues and avoid the risk of damaging industrial action” said Peter Skyte, the Unite’s national officer for IT and Communications.
