This rise calculates to an average of $12.8 million and follows an increase from the year before.



The largest gains were for Brian Moynihan at Bank of America (with more than 6 times higher salary granted moving from a loss to a profit of $1.4 billion), Vikram Pandit at Citigroup’s and Jamie Dimon at JPMorgan. Brady Dougan of Credit Suisse, on the other hand, faced a pay cut of 46% in connection with falling profits and anger over last year’s pay.



This comes in the context of already expressed anger at shareholder meetings this spring at the excessive levels of executive pay in combination with falling profits.



It also comes in the midst of regulatory efforts on executive bankers’ pay, as the EU debates a cap on bonuses to 100% of fixed salary. This analysis, looking at both fixed salaries and bonuses and stock options, found that “fixed salaries continue to rise while variable cash payments are sinking as regulators clamp down on bonuses. But average stock and option awards increased by 22 per cent.”
