In their home countries companies, including Deutsche Post DHL and IKEA adhere to corporate social responsibility policies but in Turkey they have routinely undermined the free choice of employees to join a union with tactics ranging from discriminatory dismissals to coercion to resign from the union.



IKEA Turkey is deliberately discriminating against unionised employees and actively discouraging workers from forming a union, using tactics including bribery and intimidation.



In the case of DP DHL, management has been actively supporting a “yellow” union in opposition to the legitimate choice of workers. 30 Turkish DHL workers have been dismissed and in every appeal which has gone to court the decision had called for reinstatement. In four cases the Courts found that the sackings were directly linked to union activity.



The Forum will call for these companies to be held accountable by advocating for stronger labour law and enforcement, and reaching a new level of cooperation to protect the rights of workers in Turkey.
