UNI affiliate, the Food, Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) of Nigeria has won union recognition in Promasidor, a South African multinational food processing company that sells its range of products in over 25 African countries.

FOBTOB's victory comes after eight days of picketing the company. The union has been trying to organise Promasidor workers for the past five years.

Management always found ways to kick out workers who showed interest in joining the union and had fired the branch officials elected by our the Junior Staff union. This led to apathy amongst the workers until FOBTOB decided to picket the company.

On 28 November management agreed to recognise FOBTOB and the union is now in the process of electing branch officials in the company.
