The first national conference of the new Chilean private care union federation FENASSAP (Federacion Nacional de Salud de Clinicas Privadas y afines) took place. 20 unions came together to create the federation with the support of UNICARE and UNI Americas earlier this year to take on the challenges of raising standards and organising in private clinics. The conference was a big success. The union delegates elected their first management committee and adopted a joint work plan. This is a big achievement for all Chilean care workers, and also a very relevant step in our common fight against fragmentation of the trade union movement in Chile. FENASSAP will coordinate bargaining against common employers and pool resources to fund national organizing drives.
