Excellent participation and affiliation in the Commerce Workers' Union elections.
On the 15th of October, during a day of celebrations that resulted in the affiliation of 800 new workers to the Colombian Commerce Workers Union, the Union's National Elections were held in 35 cities across the country, located in Cencosud shops.
With great acceptance and joy, Cencosud Group workers in Colombia voted in a ceremony full of militancy, sense of belonging, and the intention to continue growing and obtaining more and better results.
On that day, workers elected their leaders, delegates and members of the Municipal regional boards who will represent them in their jobs. The process was carried out in a climate of respect and peace thanks to the organization and responsibility of the UNION's leaders.
Gustavo Triani, Regional Director of UNI Americas Commerce, enthusiastically joined in the activities of the day, visiting stores in Cali with President Luz Marina Diaz, whom he congratulated for the overwhelming support and result in the elections.
"It's a clear sign that workers want to perform their jobs in an environment of peace and democracy, supporting a union that is growing every day and fighting to provide their members with respect for human and labour rights to achieve better working conditions work" he said.
The votes showed the workers' support for the UNION's actions. At the end of the day, and with over 75% voter turnout, Luz Marina Diaz congratulated all union members.
"I welcome all the new leaders who join the union and invite you to work with joy, commitment, responsibility and professionalism to successfully develop the tasks for which you were elected by your brothers and sisters" she said .
Adriana Rosenzvaig, UNI Americas Regional Secretary, proudly praised these democratic elections, "it has been an extraordinary experience and has really confirmed the capacity and representativeness of the Colombian Workers Union," she said.
More than one hundred new leaders joined the UNION, and with this new challenge in a union that is growing every day, and is the largest in the sector, must continue working on strengthening the union organisation.
