On 25 September 2013, UNI Europa and Eurocommerce were invited by both the human resources management and the delegates of the European Committee of Carrefour to explain how the European sectoral social dialogue functions, the main outcomes, their working programme and priorities as well as the obstacles and challenges the Social Dialogue at EU level is confronted with .



Social partners explained the differences of views as regards the involvement of their respective members in the European Social Dialogue. They also explained that on certain topics, that are very close to the trade unions in the Commerce sector, such as shop opening hours, wage setting, working time and Sunday work, a consensual position could not be found.



Laila Castaldo, UNI Europa Policy Officer for the Commerce sector said “Despite the different mandates and representatives’ status vis-à-vis our members, UNI Europa and Eurocommerce should work towards a better communication and link between the different levels of social dialogue. It is essential that social partners at company level talk to unions’ and employers’ delegates in the European Social Dialogue to ensure a proper follow-up and implementation of its outcomes”.
