Euro Area unemployment stabilises at 12% - still too high
In December 2013, Euro Area unemployment rate stood at 12%, slight increase since December 2012.
Since November 2013, the number of unemployed persons decreased in the EU28 but increased in the Euro Area.
In December 2013, EU28 unemployment rate stood at 10.7% or a marginal decrease since November 2013.
Estimates point out the unacceptable figures of 26.200 million men and women unemployed in the EU28 of whom 19.010 million were in the Euro Area.
Hardest hit countries in December 2013 were Greece (27.8%), Spain (25.8%), Cyprus (17.5%), Portugal (15.4%), and Bulgaria (13.1%).
Youth unemployment in December 2013 stood at 23.2% in the EU28 and at 23.8% in the Euro Area.
Hardest hit countries were Greece (59.2%), Spain (54.3%), Croatia (49.2%), Cyprus (40.8%), and Portugal (36.3%).
