UNI Post & Logistics Global Union supported by UNI SCORE, met with representatives from the Egyptian postal trade unions this week in Cairo, Egypt. Several independent trade unions and federations in the postal sector have developed in Egypt post-revolution.



In August-September, 2011, a postal strike beginning in three regions expanded to every region across the country. The unions have negotiated some agreements with Egypt Post including getting two days off per week, instead of one that existed pre revolution, and an increase in their bonus pay. However, there is resistance from Egypt post in making more substantive improvements in wages and working conditions. The unions identify their top priorities as; higher salaries, fighting corruption in the post and changing the disciplinary action that postal management can take against workers.



UNI is working closely with other Global Union Federations and the ITUC in supporting the development of the independent Egyptian trade unions and advocating for a labour law in Egypt that respects freedom of association.
