Digitalisation entails huge potentials to boost both growth and the quality of life in Europe. UNI Europa, the European trade union federation representing 7 million service workers, and ÖGB Europabüro, the Brussels Office of the Austrian Trade Union Federation, together with AK EUROPA, the Brussels Office of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour, are therefore organising a panel debate on EU policy in the face of digital change.
With its Digital Agenda, however, the European Union limits its reaction to digital change to the construction of a digital single market. But digitalisation is far more than that. It will affect the number and types of jobs, markets, as well as consumer and social behaviour.
More and alternative strategies are needed to ensure that digitally driven growth in Europa goes hand in hand with the creation of quality jobs and social justice. In this panel debate, UNI Europa and ÖGB Europabüro wish to highlight and discuss with the participants an inclusive and comprehensive digitalisation strategy.
