Cleaners who are members of FNV Bondgenoten in Holland will be celebrating the anniversary of their victory last year on 19 March. A special event is planned in Utrecht at the railway station where hundreds of cleaners staged a sleep-in as part of their campaign. The strike led to a historic victory.



The strike will be remembered, a book with a lot of pictures of the strike will be presented along with the story of cleaners' hope and ideas for the future. The cleaners will also present their individual stories with help of a garbage museum. each cleaner has a story and they will tell it by using a piece of art made from the things they find at work. They will be assisted by an artist. There will be more than 500 cleaners present and they will show their new banners and their power.

UNI Global Union awarded the FNV Bondgenoten cleaners our Breaking Through Award for 2010 in recognition of their outstanding organising success. We support this celebration and look forward to working with cleaners in the Netherlands to continue to improve pay and conditions."
