Andy Kerr was elected as the new World President of UNI ICTS at the sector’s global conference in Sweden. Kerr, a Deputy General Secretary at the UK’s Communication Workers Union, takes over from outgoing President Francisco Hernandez Juarez.

"It is a great honour not only for me but also for my union and I pledge to to you all my full commitment to this prestigious role," Kerr said. "I believe this sector is key and central to the future of UNI as a whole and I won't let you down."

Beginning as a Field Engineer at British Telecom in 1975, Andy brings four decades of experience in the telecoms industry. Elected to the CWU National Executive Council in 1997, he was later elected as Chair of the Telecoms & Financial Services Executive in 1999. He became Deputy General Secretary (Telecoms & Financial Services) in 2008. In 2013 he was elected to return for a second term as UNI Europa ICTS Vice President.

Head of UNI ICTS Alan Tate said, “I’m delighted to welcome Andy into his new role as UNI ICTS World President. He has served UNI Europa ICTS admirably during his time as Vice President and I’m sure he will bring all of that passion with him as he leads the organisation forward for the next four years.”

Francisco Hernandez Juarez was elected in Mexico City as the first World President of UNI ICTS and led the organisation through its first four years.

Andy Kerr was born in Ayrshire in Scotland. He has two adult children and two grandchildren.
