Moya Greene, chief executive of Royal Mail, addressed postal workers at the Communication Workers Union postal conference yesterday in Bournemouth. In her address, Greene pointed to some of the positive changes that CWU and Royal Mail have achieved together in the 21 months she her appointment. These included a resolution to the pension deficit and improvements to regulation. From her perspective, Royal Mail's greatest threat is from outside companies that have begun end-to-end delivery in the UK. She noted that more work must be done within the regulatory structure to ensure fair competition, noting that Royal Mail delivers to every door, six-days-a-week for a uniform price. Greene recognized CWU members' commitment to their jobs and said she is eager to work together to make Royal Mail more competitive.

Dave Ward, Deputy General Secretary for Postal, noted that while CWU and Royal Mail won't agree on all issues, there are opportunities to work together to help Royal Mail compete in the changing environment.
