The Communication Workers Union has welcomed the recent announcement by Royal Mail of a new business alliance in China as in important step to preserving jobs and service in the United Kingdom. Royal Mail's European parcel division, GLS, has entered into a relationship with ZJS Express in China to offer fully-tracked B2B parcel service from China to Europe.



CWU Deputy General Secretary Dave Ward said the move reflects the union's call for Royal Mail to be more innovative in its business strategy. "Let's hope this new partnership proves successful and generates new revenues which can protect jobs and secure the UK's universal delivery service," he added in a union statement on the announcement.



ZJS Express currently serves over 2,000 villages and cities in China and employs around 20,000 people. GLS is one of the biggest parcel service providers in Europe and employs over 13,000 workers across the continent.
