The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has spearheaded a movement to push the Conservative government to consult the public before pushing through plans to dismantle Canada Post. CUPW and other concerned groups rallied in front of Transport Minister Lisa Raitt's office on 12 September, deliverying over 10,000 postcards demanding the government "Make the Review Public".

Under the terms of the Canada Post Charter, the 5-year review process is meant to be a public consultation. To date, the government has refused to meet with the union or other groups affected by their proposals for Canada Post. "The public owns Canada Post. They have a right to input. It's time to stop these cuts and talk about the future," said CUPW President Denis Lemelin.

Canada Post outlined a five-point plan in December 2013 which would eliminate door-to-door mail delivery, increase the number of franchise post offices and seek to drastically reduce labor costs. The plan would have a tremendous negative impact on universal postal services in Canada and would eliminate thousands of decent jobs.
